Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering field that produces diagnostic, therapeutic and regenerative-purposed equipment and solutions. While being in a close collaboration with medicine, biomedical engineering feeds from scientific fields including but not limited to electrical and electronics engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, biology and molecular biology. Examples of biomedical applications are research and development for medical imaging systems including their software, measurement of biomedical signals and development of the equipment for their analysis, design and production of biomaterials, regeneration of the diseased or malfunctioning tissue, development of personalized treatment methods and production of therapeutic biologicals.
The purpose of the undergraduate program in biomedical engineering is to educate highly skilled engineers with innovative thinking but who also possess high levels of professional ethics and standards, who are in scientific collaboration and communication and capable of applying engineering principles to life sciences to produce highly-needed equipment, strategies and solutions to improve diagnosis and treatment in medicine.
Ankara University Department of Biomedical Engineering is the first Department in a state university in Ankara. The Department is established in its own building on 50. Yıl Campus with its modern classrooms, research and computer laboratories, student study rooms and offices. There are two Professors, one Associate Professor and two Assistant Professors as faculty members in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
